LOCAL RESOURCES HELP PARENTS WITH DRUG, ALCOHOL AND TOBACCO ISSUES
Parents often don’t know where to turn for information to help them with teen drug, alcohol or tobacco issues or to prepare their younger children for the teen years. Talbot Partnership, a coalition creating a community culture favoring substance-free adolescents, offers the following resources:
- TurnAround Drug Testing - free, prompt drug testing and assessment of adolescents at the Talbot County Health Department Addictions Program located at 301 Bay Street, Suite 307, Easton. Call 410-819-5900 for an appointment.
- Guiding Good Choices Parent Education – a four-session program on raising drug-free youth for families of 4th through 8th graders. Call Talbot Partnership at 410-819-8067 to arrange a program in your neighborhood.
- Website Resources – www.antidrug.com, sponsored by the Office of National Drug Control Policy, offers information about drugs and advice for parents.
- Printed materials and financial support – free booklets and pamphlets on raising drug-free youth and a community stipend program to promote community alcohol, tobacco, and other drug prevention from Talbot Partnership, 8 Goldsborough Street, Suite 203, Easton. Call 410-819-8067 to learn more.
- Information and referrals for families – offered by the Parent Education Coordinator at the Talbot County Department of Social Services. Call 410-770-4848 for further information.
- Al-Anon for parents – free support group for people who have family members or friends with alcohol or other drug abuse problems. Meetings held at the Immanuel Lutheran Church at 7215 Ocean Gateway, Easton on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:15 to 6:15 p.m., at Church of the Nazarene, Hollyday and Glebe Roads, Easton on Tuesdays from 8 to 9 p.m. and at the Christ Church Parrish House in St. Michaels on Thursdays from 8 to 9 p.m.
